The Quicknotes Quiz

Category: Let's talk

Post 1 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Monday, 31-Dec-2007 19:11:30

I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in "Game Parlor" but I thought this would be better since it relates to qns. For the last few days, I've done a couple of general knowledge quizzes in quicknotes, partly cos I was bored and partly cos I've got points that I don't use.

These seems to have gone down quite well so I'm gonna do another one if there's enough interest, starting at an advertised time so that all who want to can take part.

It works like this: There are 20 questions, each worth half a million points. The questions are asked in qn and the points go to the fastest four correct answers as follows:
200,000 for first
150,000 for second
100,000 for third
50,000 for fourth

The whole session runs for about an hour and you can join and leave at any time (though obviously the longer you stay, the more chance you have to win points). Questions range from sport to music to TV to the colour of the tinsel around my monitor; the next one will take place at around 4.30pm GMT on New Year's Day (that's around 11.30am Eastern). Interested? Comments?

Okay start time will be nearer to 4.30pm GMT so I can watch most of the Arsenal game ...

i like this idea dusty. i'll be sure to join the next one.

Post 9 by Diane (Missing a Friend!) on Tuesday, 01-Jan-2008 15:54:01

Dusty I had fun, even though I broke my leg playing. LOL. I didn't know you were doing it, until I logged in and there you guys were on question #15. Lots of fun and I'll look for future sessions. Perhaps the admins would agree to pay out the points for you from the site instead of your own account if this becomes a regular thing. Maybe others could host similar games for the zone and then CL's or Admins could pay out the points when it is over. Thanks and hugs!
Diane

Post 10 by Diane (Missing a Friend!) on Tuesday, 01-Jan-2008 15:56:25

And thanks for being so clear with the time--it can get a bit confusing with us all spread out around the globe, so you did a good job explaining when we might play again.
Hugs again,
Diane

Hi,
I like the idea. But how do I join in? And when will the next one be?
Thanks, this sounds like a lot of fun, and I really need the points.

Post 32 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Saturday, 12-Jan-2008 19:59:01

Okay folks, for clarification here are the rules for the Quicknote Quizzes:

There are 20 general knowledge questions, each worth 1,000,000 points in standard games (though multiples may be given).
I will put the questions in quicknotes and points will be given to the four fastest correct answers as follows:
1st gets 400,000
2nd gets 300,000
3rd gets 200,000
4th gets 100,000

The order is determined by the way quicknotes appear on my console; there is always debate about what order this is, but I refresh as quickly as I can once I've posted the question and do it this way.
Your answers must be in public quicknotes; pqn will be ignored and wont count
You can only put one answer in each qn.
Any answers that are just numbers *must* be spelled (unless I say otherwise).
Capitalisation isn't important for your answers, but spelling is.
Don't send me any PQN during the quiz as they disrupt the flow and wont be answered.
Each quiz start time will usually be posted on this thread, but if you are late you can still join in.
All points are given out after the end of the quiz.
Each quiz lasts about two hours and you can come and go as you please.
I update you on the leaderboard after 5, 10, 15 and 20 questions.

I hope this is clear, and more notes may get added if and as the quiz develops. Thanks all!

Post 33 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Thursday, 17-Jan-2008 15:04:38

Okay folks, here are the winning entries for the bonus points:

ECHOLOCATION, by mathbites

Ears Continually Hearing Oral Loudness Or Complete Audio Things In Our Nnation

Well done Diane, that's a million points to you!

As for the story, this is the winner, submitted by Pipi:

Once was a Thirty-three year old woman named Amy Winehouse. She had this unhealthy obsession with Boy George. After only three months of marriage, her husband Jack threatened to leave her unless she got help for her problems. So Amy seekd out the professional help of Frasier. Although he only played a psychologist on TV, like Roger Moore played James Bond, it still cost her husband £680 and hour to try to get rid of her sickening obsession. Fraisier suggested that Amy take up a few hobbies such as playing a wood wind instrument like the clarinet or scuba diving. She tried the diving, took her sonar with her to find lost treasures under the ocean. She had a frightening scare with a shark and rushed back to the surface like an idiot. Amy ended up with the bends. She spent two days in the hospital. After her release, she went back to Fraisier for more help. She had a new obsession. Amy thought that anything she ate or drank would give her cancer. Fraisier suggested she take a three month vacation to Vancouver. While she was there, he ordered her to read every Pulitzer Prize winning piece she could get her hands on. While in Canada, Amy experienced sonic boom when she visited the airport, her favorite reading spot. After all her reading, she was inspired to write a book about one parent left at home with her 6 kids while her husband served in Gulf War I. She titled the book, One Vision. After her extensive stay in Vancouver, Amy went back to Fraisier and he said she was cured. Amy and jack lived happily ever after. The End

Well done, and for your efforts, have 5 million points!

See? It's that easy! The next Quicknotes Quiz will be on Saturday, same time as last week (10.30pm UK)

Post 34 by Albanac (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Thursday, 17-Jan-2008 15:23:39

Post 36 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Saturday, 19-Jan-2008 21:16:45

Well, Quicknotes Quiz 8 took place on Saturday night, and boy was there tension afterwards! Well, no there wasn't really. Here are the final scores:

1 Captain Cynic 1,800,000
2 mathbites 1,150,000
3 Who'surdaddy? 1,150,000
4 Pipi 1,000,000
5 Malthe 800,000
= KottonKandi 800,000
7 Jeannie819 750,000
= Cammy Lingus 750,000
9 Liz 700,000
10 Thechosen1 250,000
= computeradict 250,000
12 Somanea 150,000
= Blackbird 150,000
= Blind-bandit 150,000
15 Preciosa 50,000
= Wax1 50,000
= littlebitty 50,000

mathbites beat who'surdaddy for 2nd place, by virtue of having more 1st correct answers.

Please folks, feel free to post your comments, suggestions and criticisms as to how to make the quiz better. One thing that has been mentioned is the fact that the points are given out based on speed. This isn't always best because of peoples' internet connections, amount of quicknotes posted etc, so I'll see what variations can be made to mix it up a bit.

By the way there will probably be no Quiz next weekend, but check back here for updates.

Thanks again to all who played!

Post 37 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Thursday, 24-Jan-2008 17:13:13

Hi folks, just to let you know that there wont be a Quicknotes Quiz this weekend. It's been a crazy-hectic week and now I've got something on which I need to take care of so I've had little time to prepare.

Fear not though, it will be back with a few new tweaks and twists next weekend!

In the meantime please feel free to comment and suggest. Go on, I can take it ... lol

See you next weekend for a quiz. Missing it this week. Praying for no drama following the next one. :)

Post 40 by Diane (Missing a Friend!) on Friday, 01-Feb-2008 16:24:59

And what time is the quiz tomorrow?

Post 41 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Friday, 01-Feb-2008 20:40:24

Quicknotes Quiz 9 will take place on Saturday 2 February at 6pm UK Time. There will be lots of extra points on offer because of last week's absence, *and* there will be a bonus place for correct answers, so more chances to get on that leaderboard!

Following feedback there will be some new things being trialled for this quiz:
1. Each person will only be allowed one guess for a question. Once everybody has guessed you will be allowed another go, as long as there haven't already been enough correct answers. The idea of this is to assist people who don't type as quickly, as well as to eliminate rapid multiple guesses).
2. Some of the questions will require answers via private quicknotes (these will be specified).

Depending on how these work they will be incorporated as regular rules. For those who haven't played before, here are the standard rules in full:

There are 20 general knowledge questions, each worth 1,000,000 points in standard games (though multiples may be given).
I will put the questions in quicknotes and points will be given to the four fastest correct answers as follows:
1st gets 200,000
2nd gets 150,000
3rd gets 100,000
4th gets 50,000

The order is determined by the way quicknotes appear on my console; there is always debate about what order this is, but I refresh as quickly as I can once I've posted the question and do it this way.
You can only put one answer in each qn.
Some answers need to be sent by Private QN; watch out for these!
Only your first answer will be accepted for each question, and you'll only be able to answer again once everybody has had a go.
Any answers that are just numbers *must* be spelled unless the question states otherwise.
Capitalisation isn't important for your answers, but spelling is.
Each quiz start time will usually be posted on this thread, but if you are late you can still join in.
The quiz lasts about two hours and you can come and go as you please.
The leaderboard is updated after 5, 10, 15 and 20 questions
All points are given out after the end of the quiz.

I hope this is all clear, but as always, post here if you have comments or questions.

Post 42 by CSection (Out standing in my field.) on Saturday, 02-Feb-2008 11:45:10

Sounds good Dusty, but some people answer after about ten minutes lol, so how will you determine when everybody has had one guess?

Post 43 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Saturday, 02-Feb-2008 13:01:49

A very good question Cammy-Cam-Cam.

I reckon everybody will have had a guess within a minute.
Either that or we'll have had enough correct answers by then.
Let's suck it and see eh? lol

Post 44 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Saturday, 02-Feb-2008 16:22:49

Okay folks, here are the scores from QQ 9

1 Pipi 5,750,000
2 Cammy Lingus 3,812,500
3 LibraLady 3,812,500
4 Captain Cynic 3,250,000
5 Jeannie819 2,375,000
6 Wax1 1,250,000
7 Malthe 1,062,500
8 Harmony 875,000
9 jmbauer 687,500
10 Eros 562,500
11 Devious Britches 500,000
12 HotPerro 437,500
13 Medical Queen 312,500
14 Wraith 187,500

Well done again.
The new rules were okay-ish. I'm scrapping the "answers by private quicknotes" because it just complicates things in the console.
I'm not sure about the "one answer each" rule; it worked okay but made the quiz a lot slower. What do you reckon?

Post 45 by Diane (Missing a Friend!) on Saturday, 02-Feb-2008 21:59:20

I am so sad that I missed the quiz. Hope to catch the next one and try the new rules. Thanks again, Dusty.

Post 46 by CSection (Out standing in my field.) on Sunday, 03-Feb-2008 12:18:11

Firstly, Dusty, after making me cyber with you for over an hour, i was expecting a bit better than second place? lol.
But seriously, I think the one initial answer rule worked, but your right in saying it slowed the quiz down. Perhaps only implament that rule on certain questions? Just a suggestion.
And thank you once again Dusty, it livens the place up whenever you do a quiz.
Right, i've been nice, so you can get rid of those incriminating pictures now ok?

Post 47 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Sunday, 03-Feb-2008 13:05:55

I want a copy of those pictures.

Dusty, I'd personally prefer not to have the rule about waiting to make a second guess. And I think only having that rule for certain questions as Cam suggested could just make things more confusing, especially for people who come in late and start playing in the middle of the quiz.

Post 48 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Sunday, 03-Feb-2008 16:13:32

Okay Cam, the pictures stay in the floor-safe ... for now!

I'm still torn about the "one answer" rule; on one hand it works because it opens up the competitiveness a little and makes people work a bit harder. On the other hand it does slow the flow.

I think I will try it one more time for the next quiz (which will have a theme and a bonus worth 10 million points by the way).

Post 49 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Saturday, 09-Feb-2008 6:40:30

Good morning!

The 10th - yep 10th! - Quicknotes Quiz takes place today (Saturday) at 6pm UK.
the rule about answering in PQN wont be used cos it didn't work.
The rule about having to wait to make a second guess *will* be in place for this quiz.
The quiz will have a special theme and a 10 million point bonus so although you don't need to play for the whole quiz to win points, you *do* need to be there from the start for the best chance of winning the bonus.

Here's how the bonus will work:
There will be 21 questions and the first letter of each answer will be part of a phrase. I'll tell you before the question which position the letter comes (eg 7th letter) and you will need to keep track of the letters and their positions. The first person to send the complete phrase to me by *Private Mail* will get the bonus points.

Other than this, the quiz proceeds as normal, with a points multiple of 2.5.
As well as posting the scores, I'll also post the overall leaderboard from the first 10 quizzes!

As always, post any questions or comments.
See you at 5.50pm for a rules recap, then straight into it at 6.

Right, I'm off to the gym!

Well perhaps not Val, cos it's been postponed to 10pm UK (that's 5pm Eastern etc) so see you then! :-)

16 Medical Queen 250,000
17 SilkySarah 125,000
18 Sweet Sacrifice 62,500

Thanks to all who played, and as you can see, it was a very wide-open spread with lots of new winners, which is good!
The "one answer each" rule worked a bit better this time and the whole quiz managed to get done in well under two hours, which is a bonus!

There was a bonus question which was correctly identified by Pipi, who got 10 million on top. It would be useful to know how many people were keeping track of this, as I will try and do another one.

Thanks again folks.

Quicknotes Quiz 11 is today, starting at 7.45pm UK Time.
There will be another theme/bonus question worth 10 million points, so you'll need to be there from the start and keep track of the answers if you want to win that (no recaps)!
The one answer rule will also be in place and the points multiplier will again be 2.5.

And for those who will ask, here are the time zones:
ET is GMT - 5
PT is GMT - 8
South Africa is GMT + 2
Canberra is GMT + 11
Mumbai is GMT +5.5

If you're unsure of the rules, post questions here beforehand cos the recap will be brief when the quiz starts.
We need some new challengers on the scoreboard so if you've never played before, come along!

Oh, I was going to go get my nails done this afternoon. Hmm, decisions, decisions...

Post 55 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Saturday, 16-Feb-2008 12:22:57

lol go and get them done. I've just found out that the Arsenal-Man United match could go into extra time and beyond, so the quiz will now start at 8.30pm UK, just to be on the safe side ...

By the way, if you *do* get them done, I don't wanna hear no "I couldn't type fast, I didn't wanna chip my fresh new nails"-flavoured be-atching lol

Post 56 by CSection (Out standing in my field.) on Saturday, 16-Feb-2008 12:30:21

Dusty, it can't go into extra time, it can only be replayed! Honestly... typical clueless gooner.

If you want to play the next quiz and haven't played before or aren't familiar with the rules, can I ask you to please check the most recent post with the rules in it? I wont be explaining the rules during the quiz anymore because it just slows things down.

Also I am thinking of putting something different into a future quiz, such as playing in teams, penalty points and stuff like that. What do you think could make for an interesting twist ..?

Post 60 by short stuff (sexy) on Monday, 18-Feb-2008 17:42:54

hmmmmmm maybe mae t so you can only get the firs place point once every oher question on't know

Post 61 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Monday, 18-Feb-2008 18:35:16

Okay, first things first; from this week the Quicknotes Quiz will be moving to a new regular slot of Sunday at 8pm UK Time (PT -8, ET -5, Canberra +9, India +5.5, SA +2 etc). This time will be easier for me to stick to than Saturday evenings, so I hope you'll all still be able to play.

To recap for those who aren't sure (or just want a refresh), here are the quiz rules:

There are (usually) 20 questions on a variety of subjects including sport, showbiz, maths, science, history and others as I choose. In a standard quiz each question is worth 1,000,000 points (though multiples may be given).
Each question is asked in quicknotes and points will be given to the four fastest correct answers as follows:
1st gets 400,000
2nd gets 300,000
3rd gets 200,000
4th gets 100,000

The order is determined by the way quicknotes appear on my console; there is always debate about what order this is, but I refresh as quickly and often as I can once I've posted the question.

Your answers must be in public quicknotes; pqn will be ignored and wont count
You can only put one answer in each qn.
You can only have one guess until everybody has had a try. This is because some people have faster connections or refresh more quickly than others. If everybody has had guesses and there are still points available, second guesses will be allowed.
Any answers that are just numbers *must* be spelled unless the question states otherwise.
Capitalisation isn't important for your answers, but spelling is.
Bonus questions are thrown in at random and these points are not added to the leaderboard.
The quiz lasts for about two hours; if you miss the start you can still join in, and you may come and go as you please.
All points are transferred after the end of the quiz.
You get updated on the leaderboard after 5, 10 and 15 questions.

Themed Quizzes:
Sometimes the quiz will have a running theme where the first letter of each answer goes to form part of a bonus phrase. So, for example if the bonus phrase is "Dusty", I might say: "Question 1 (the 2nd letter): What is the opposite of ‘over’?”
In this case the first letter of the answer (‘under’) is the 2nd letter of the bonus phrase.
The first person to send the correct phrase by email gets several million bonus points.
The bonus runs separately to the quiz so if you come in late, lose track or don’t want to play the bonus you can just concentrate on the main questions.

So I hope that’s cleared everything up regarding the rules. If you want to play the quizzes, please read and digest these before we start, cos answering questions about the rules during the quiz is distracting and slows things down!

See you on Sunday!

Post 65 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Monday, 25-Feb-2008 16:40:24

Hard or not Diane, you still managed to finish second *and* nab the ten million bonus points! The bonus phrase was "Nymphadora and Happyman" for no other reason than I did the phrase before the questions! Anyway, here's the scoreboard for the 12th quiz:

1 pipi 4,687,500
2 mathbites 3,750,000
3 Cam 3,312,500
4 captain cynic 2,062,500

10 littlebitty 875,000
11 silkysarah 875,000

Well done folks, that was a good one! Next Sunday's quiz will be the last for a while as I'll be taking a well-earned(?) break the following week. I'd like to do a quiz with some teams of say four people each, so if you ahve suggestions, as always, post here!

Post 66 by Blondie McConfusion (Blah Blah Blah) on Tuesday, 26-Feb-2008 0:47:13

dusty, before you take your break, please set up a quiz for me. sir mcteapot vs. me. so i can kick his ass!
and thank you again for doing the quizzes. feeds my competitiveness very well.

Post 67 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Tuesday, 26-Feb-2008 8:39:27

I don't really think your competitiveness needs any more feeding, do you Pips? Lol

But ... What I propose is this: a slightly shorter quiz for you two, with some of the answers being more abstract (as opposed to specific answers) so there is more tension. Both of you send me 50 million points beforehand and the winner takes all.

If you're both up for it, let me know and I'll try and work on it ...

Post 68 by soaring eagle (flying high again!) on Tuesday, 26-Feb-2008 9:47:27

Post 76 by CSection (Out standing in my field.) on Tuesday, 26-Feb-2008 15:54:11

And i've had an idea about teams. Because people come and go, I think it would help you if you got people to register beforehand, so you could have time to work out the teams, and post them on here, so that the quiz could start on time, without confusion. And don't worry dusty, by on time, i do mean ten minutes late...

Post 77 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Tuesday, 26-Feb-2008 16:05:58

Ah, accusing the host of cheating, *that's* best way of going about it Cam lmao

i think I'll open a book on this.
Pipi is 6 to 4
Cam is 2 to 1

Maximum bet is 1 million points!

Post 78 by Blondie McConfusion (Blah Blah Blah) on Tuesday, 26-Feb-2008 16:17:58

lori, i don't cheat dear. i'm just awesome compared to cameron.
dusty, how would the teams work?

Post 79 by CSection (Out standing in my field.) on Tuesday, 26-Feb-2008 17:57:55

God, people write some shit on these boards don't they?... lmfao.

Post 80 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Tuesday, 04-Mar-2008 8:54:03

My apologies for the absence of quiz last weekend. Despite what I said, I was unable to get home for the scheduled start time, so there wasn't enough space to get it done.

This means that there will not be a quiz until I return from my break, however I would really like to try the teams idea. So, while I'm gone, how about you organise yourselves into teams of four people, choose a team name and nominate a captain, and when I get back we can see how it works?

See ya ...

Post 81 by Diane (Missing a Friend!) on Saturday, 15-Mar-2008 14:00:42

Lory and Pipi, do you have a team yet?

Post 82 by Blondie McConfusion (Blah Blah Blah) on Saturday, 15-Mar-2008 15:09:26

nope, i sure don't. kind of forgot about it since not sure when we are doing one again.

Post 83 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Saturday, 15-Mar-2008 16:39:23

How do the teams work. Do we pick a captain of sorts and send the answers to them and they give the answer? Or does each team get a question and if they get it right they get the point?

Post 84 by CSection (Out standing in my field.) on Saturday, 15-Mar-2008 19:13:19

Not sure how it's going to work yet, as Dusty hasn't outlined his plan.
But he did ask that we organise ourselves into teams, so if we do that, then i'm sure Dusty will explain the workings when he returns.

Post 85 by Diane (Missing a Friend!) on Saturday, 15-Mar-2008 20:06:22

He didn't say yet. Lory and I are looking for two additional team members. We planned to ask Pipi, but not sure either of us has seen her yet. Lory wondered how it would work if a team member didn't show up and I had no clue of the answer to that. So, the team idea is cool, but the details have yet to be revealed to us. Of course, Lory and I could ask Cam to join our team and go against Pipi. Ahh, but then he might say we had to be called the gay princess babies or something awful like that, so maybe not. Hmmm, so many decisions.

Post 86 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Saturday, 15-Mar-2008 22:05:08

I have missed the last several quizzes. But I like the team idea and would love to be on a team for the next one.

And, you know you want me on your team!

Post 88 by Thom3of5 (Do the Doo.) on Sunday, 16-Mar-2008 2:00:06

I'm interested on being on a team as well. .

Post 89 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Sunday, 16-Mar-2008 6:03:50

Good day folks, is this that Zone place I've been hearing about? Lol
Sorry for the long gap, I'm not quite back in the land of my ordinary life yet so the next QQ will be on Sunday 23rd.
In the meantime, as the teams idea seems to be gathering a bit of momentum can I suggest the following: you get yourselves into teams of 4, pick a captain and a team name (optional) and the quiz will work on a mixture of questions aimed at individual members (ie all the captains, then all the number twos and so on) and questions where the whole team can confer and answer through the captain or nominate a member to go for it.
First answer only counts, no googling, more points if you don't confer and the whole pot of points gets divided between the team that wins. Keep posting and I'll sort out the format ...

Post 90 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Sunday, 16-Mar-2008 6:08:14

Oh, and just a suggestion but perhaps the most successful individual quizzers should be on different teams, mainly because the 'top seeds' will be spread around but those with a - shall we say - competitive streak can continue their battles on a team basis hee hee

Post 91 by soaring eagle (flying high again!) on Monday, 17-Mar-2008 8:38:48

I would love to be on a team. thanks!

Post 92 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Monday, 17-Mar-2008 16:38:58

Oh yes, I'd better mention, I believe you folks in the US have already put your clocks forward? If so, you're now an hour closer to GMT as our clocks don't go forward for another 13 days.

So, don't miss the start time of the Quiz, or I'll laugh at you and embarass you in public lol

Post 93 by Diane (Missing a Friend!) on Monday, 17-Mar-2008 19:48:05

Thanks for the clock warning....
Cam and I are co-captains and Lory and Candi are on our team. Our team name is yet to be determined, although Cameron promises us that it will not have gay, sexy, princess, teapot or baby in it.
Dusty, what if team members were to be in a ZBP private conference to confer on answers?

Post 94 by CSection (Out standing in my field.) on Monday, 17-Mar-2008 19:58:22

Post 95 by Diane (Missing a Friend!) on Monday, 17-Mar-2008 20:03:00

Post 103 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Thursday, 20-Mar-2008 18:12:16

Okay folks, as the teams still seem to be fairly limited so far, this Sunday will be a standard "free-for-all" Quiz, and the teams will be put on hold until we have a good number (say 4 or 5).

So if you have a team, keep it in mind, and if you don't have one yet, keep working on it!

Post 104 by Brooke (I just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 20-Mar-2008 18:21:01

Post 110 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Sunday, 23-Mar-2008 8:51:00

damn, I want to be on lory and diane's team, but think they are full.

Post 111 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Sunday, 23-Mar-2008 12:53:14

I would say that if a team member can't make it at the last minute, either pull in a quick substitute or play with one member down?

As there hasn't been a quiz since ... oh, since Cam was still called Cammy Lingus, tonight there will be a points bonanza to make up! The score factor is 5 so points for each question will go as follows:
1st: 1 million points
2nd: 750,000
3rd: 500,000
4th: 250,000
5th: 125,000

That's over 50 million points up for grabs! Be there (and don't forget the time difference!)

Post 112 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Monday, 24-Mar-2008 9:31:07

Here are the results from the 14th Quiz (Sunday 23 March):

1 Who'surdaddy? 8,500,000
2 Cameron McTeapot 8,500,000
3 Silverlightning 7,375,000
4 Jeannie819 6,000,000
5 mathbites 4,625,000
6 silkysarah 4,125,000
7 Shark 3,625,000
8 brian33 2,125,000
9 Raskolnikov 2,000,000
10 LittleBitty 1,750,000
11 HotPerro 1,375,000
12 simon_c 750,000
13 Princess Leia 500,000
= BluePrincess 500,000
15 Broccolidangelbaby 500,000
16 blind-bandit 250,000

Well done on I believe your first win Dave!
There was a 5 million point bonus up for grabs but there were no entries so nobody got that! Hopefully the teams will be sorted out soon but we'll just keep doing the individual quizzes until they are. Thanks again, next quiz is on Sunday; UK will be on Daylight Saving by then so the time difference will go back to what it usually is.

I am so sorry for the no-show, I am less than 100% at the moment and I couldn't be around on Sunday. I'm sure there was no cursing me out or anything though, right? lmao

Anyway I hope to be back to my stunning best soon, but in the meantime, how can I make it up to you all? How about 50,000 points to everybody who was planning to take part? ...

Post 115 by Diane (Missing a Friend!) on Tuesday, 01-Apr-2008 18:44:09

How 'bout if you just get better and we earn the points when you are ready to have the next one.

Post 116 by Blondie McConfusion (Blah Blah Blah) on Tuesday, 01-Apr-2008 20:00:18

no seriously dusty, get better and please do it soon. i miss the quizzes and hell i miss you too. oy, ok that's enough mushiness from me. feel better soon. and i'm here eagerly awaiting the return of the quiz and you.

Post 126 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Sunday, 13-Apr-2008 10:59:59

Hi folks, Quizboy here. Unfortunately I'm in the midst of some serious computer issues right now, and I'm not sure if I'll get them sorted in time for the quiz. If I'm not here at 8 then this will be the reason. So profuse apologies in advance for not being there.
Unless, by some miracle my PC decides to get off the rag and start behaving by then, in which case, ignore this lol

Post 127 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Thursday, 17-Apr-2008 19:05:20

Well my PC is restored to its former glory and I’m ready to go with this week’s quiz.

As a “make-up” for not doing one last weekend there’ll be lots of points on offer, and an extra spot in the questions, so points will be given for the first 6 - sorry, *six* correct answers! Yeah, get that!

Also, as a tribute to Dave, this weekend there will be 31 questions, so the quiz will last longer. It will take place at 10pm UK Time as I hope to make it accessible to as many of you as possible, so please come along, take part or just watch. I hope you can make it!

Next week we're back to 20 questions, and an 8pm UK start time.

Post 129 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Sunday, 27-Apr-2008 6:37:40

Just to remind you, tonight's quiz will be at 8pm. There are 20 questions and there'll also be a bonus phrase so you'll need to be there at the start to get all the letters! The way this works is that the first letter of each answer is a letter in the bonus phrase, so I might say "Question 1 (the 8th letter): What is the quiz-master's name?". Therefore the 8th letter of the phrase is D. The first person to send me the correct phrase in a private mail (*not* a pqn) gets the bonus points. We're also back to 5 spots for correct answers. See you at 8!

yay, the sunday quizes are back! i don't know if i'll be able to be here at 7 pm, but if i am, then i am ready to beat... um, fun girl and nikicat? maybe?

Post 158 by Dusty (This site is so "educational") on Wednesday, 11-Jun-2008 16:36:57

Okay, the quiz will be on Sunday at 6pm UK Time (PT -8, ET -5, Canberra +9, India +5.5, SA +2 etc).

To recap for those who aren't sure (or just need a refresh), here are the quiz rules:

The first person to send the correct phrase by email (*not* pqn) gets several million bonus points.
